What's up with that?
On my lovely Sunday evening nighttime ride back to Chaloklum, I was a witness to a bird committing suicide, directly into my helmet.
Out of nowhere, a bird just flew right into the middle of my helmet, full speed and fell to its death. A failed attempted murder or a successful suicide mission? Who knows, but it scared the hell out of me!
If I wasn't wearing a helmet, (which noone does on this island, not even tourists!!) I would've probably crashed. Even with the helmet on, the impact of the bird hitting the helmet, threw me off a bit. So yeah, people, you should wear helmets. Helmet hair can be fixed, your smashed head on the pavement, cannot. Sorry for the imagery.
So as I am recover from the first "attack", a poor little bat flies into the bike as I was going at about 55km. I pulled over to the side right away and found his little body, limp and dead next to the bike.
I've never seen a bat up close, but this one was so cute and little. I couldn't help but cry now, especially after the first bird incident. The little furry bat was just so beautiful and intricate with his little hands and feet attached to his wings. I did look at him way too long. Mostly because I was really sad but also a bit out of curiosity. Bats are such lovely creatures. I felt so horrible because one of them was dead because of me. This is the third bird that died around me or in my hands. What's up with that? I hope that stops. I love animals too much and I couldn't handle another thing like that.
