Shipping off to the islands!
Man, I forgot how crazy driving in Thailand is. This morning I got picked up by a minivan from Pineapple Guesthouse, the place I was staying near Phuket, Karon Beach. The destination today is Koh Lanta (Lanta Island) off the coast of Krabi town. When I woke up this morning it started raining which was completely ok with me since I'll spend most of the daylight time commuting. Now I am just sitting in the minivan taking me to Phuket town, enjoying the views passing me by. I already came on this road, on the way in from the airport, but it was nighttime so I didn't see much besides lights and restaurants.
I was watching a large industrial truck stacked with about thirty five people, pass us by as if we were going slow. We weren't. At all. As it rounded the corner I thought, "That's a bit dangerous... Welcome back to Thailand though".
We continued down winding roads, seeing the Andaman sea peak out from out of all the jungle like vegetation. About ten minutes later we hit traffic. Couple minutes later we saw the reason for the traffic. It was that same truck that passed us, flipped over on the side of the road. It seemed like everyone was ok, in passing. Accidents happen everywhere of course, but they make it so much easier here in Thailand. I was also thinking that just bein in the middle seat facing the front windshield in the van, is not the best spot to sit in. If anything happens, which isn't that unlikely, I'd fly right out the window. By the way, this thought process happened before the truck flipped over. So afte thinking that I moved over to another seat. As the van was getting filled with more tourists, a family of three sat in the front next to me. The mother with the baby sat in my previous seat. I felt a tinge of worry. I also thought that I wouldn't sit in that seat if I was sitting with a little creature on my lap that was so little and fragile.
Well, everything ended up just fine and everyone got on the ferry with no bodily injuries! :)
We lingered by the beach on Koh Phi Phi where the movie The Beach with Leonardo DiCaprio was filmed in 1999. I guess that beach used to be pretty secluded but since the movie came out, people were flocking there, just to pose in front of the two famous rock formations from one of the scenes in The Beach. It was nice to see it, but I am glad I didn't go to that beach to stay, because the little sand that there was, was overcrowded with groups of people and camera flashes. Too much.
Well, off to the islands!!
P.s. they showed episodes of Mr. Bean for almost the whole duration of the ferry ride to Koh Phi Phi (first ferry ride until I had to switch). That's almost two hours of giggling and laughing out loud to Rowin Atkinson's hilarious face expressions. Especially the one when he goes to the dentist and stabs him with the numbing needle and then drills his own teeth. Or the one where he writes himself Christmas cards and then gets super excited when he sees them after he's dropped them in his own mail box. And his Teddy bear...classic. Awesome! After that they switched to life Guns 'n' Roses shows. What a ride :)

That's so cool that you've been to that beach, gorgeous. All I can picture is the scene with the shark and then also the chick skinny dipping. Hopefully you didn't see a shark ;)
ReplyDeleteI saw a shark later but lots of chicks skinny dipping haha :)
