The Naked Truth

Image
I truly believe that there is a reason for everything. There is a reason why your eyes drift to an object or a person on a certain day, or why sometimes the simplest thought triggers a wave of emotions and feelings about things that were seemingly not a part of your life anymore, that were left in the past already. Our mind and body, if in sync, has an incredible system in place to send us signals and messages to warn about a possible danger, to warn us about a person who may not have our best interest in mind, or to simply lead us towards the path which is best for us. I am using the word “simply” very freely here because choosing our path, the correct one for us, is anything but simple. And unless we are incredibly in tune with our instinct and most of us have relinquished that power due to modern day comforts and such, then we go on ignoring those gut feelings, that inner voice because they don’t go along with the plan that we have for ourselves. Well, there we have i...

Live For Today

Image
If our tomorrow is as uncertain as a 50/50 chance in a game of life, then why do we still spend our days worrying about tomorrow? If we wake up each day and go after our most passionate goals, we will do happiness itself a favor and create our own joy and contentment. A local Khmer girl and her son. We worked together at a hostel on Koh Rong island, Cambodia   We can go after our goals as if each day will be our last one. Time is an invention of the universe and time cannot separate from us. We are it. So why are we so afraid of our own shadows? We need to become aware of the beauties of life in all of its forms; including its insecurities. We need to not worry about whether tomorrow is going to happen or not. It will happen on its own, with or without you. But you are a part of it all.  You are more than enough. Today is more than enough. If we can live in a way that makes us the happiest, why do we go on playing according to some rules made by...

Finding a Good Excuse not to Make Excuses

Image
I look towards the purple and blue evening sky and wonder about how little we truly know about ourselves and about the world we live in. About where we come from and what is the true purpose of our existence. We cover our eyes and refuse to see anything other than the known, the comfortable, the safe. There may be comfort within safety. The recognition of a new day, which was the same as the day before, which was exactly the same as the one before that, is a terrible curse. It’s a freedom which people don’t even understand that they are missing. It’s a beautiful escape into the traps of time, perception and comprehension. We hover around and around looking everywhere outwards just so we wouldn’t have to look inside. Just so we would be safe within the chains of the reality which is already rigged for us. It’s a conditioned society that bases its beliefs on a pre-made concept of life. It isn’t an organic model. It’s a continuation of a previous model. This way of thinking ...

Nature, peace and beauty :)

Image
The effects of nature on the human mind are incredible. Getting away from the city helps to clear the mind and open up your eyes to the beauty which surrounds us, regardless of where we are. No tall buildings, rolling hills, green grass, exotic flowers, waterfalls, lakes and endless sky. Yes, Breathe. Take it all in and enjoy. Central California was so beautiful to see, especially after being in downtown San Diego for almost half a year now. And with each mile we drove, the most amazing nature's creations unfolded in front of our eyes. Every curve in the famous Route 1, which hugs the California coastline for miles upon miles of impressive landscapes and a never ending Pacific Ocean, brought many ooooo's and aaaaahhhh's and woooow's out of us. The more north we drove, the more incredible the views were becoming. And then I finally was starting to understand why people were so into California. It's absolutely beautiful and the natural beauty surprises you on...

Just Be Yourself

Image
Purify your mind, cleanse your life of unnecessary clutter. Of "filler people", of mindless entertainment, of instant gratifications. Purify yourself and speak the truth to others, but most importantly to yourself. Don't wait until you are so far gone that wrong and right just bleed together in an infinite pool of possibilities and distractions. Listen to that little voice that guides you to say, "go to the light". But too often we choose to go to the dark side. And while we sit in the dark, with a match and shaking hands, we convince ourselves that this is exactly where we want to be and that what we are doing is normal. Normal or not normal, well, who's to judge? No need to be normal. No need to conform, but you need to be considerate of other people and not to play with their feelings like it's a yo-yo competition. Be open, be respectful, and be truthful to yourself. If you can't even tell the truth to yourself then your battle is already lost and...

Bienvenidos a Baja California, México!

Image
Leaving San Diego, if only for a few days and seeing the skyline without high rises interrupting the view is just priceless. It's insane how much can change in one day! My soul is dancing because I have the company of beautiful ladies with even more beautiful hearts. The locals have been so sweet and helpful with directions, advice or a simple conversation. There's a good, chill vibe here which allows you to relax, breathe, and organize your thoughts. Port of Ensenada   Ensenada itself isn't anything to write home about but for us ladies, after spending so much time in the hostel downtown with all that noise, Ensenada is heaven sent. It's perfect! The hostel where we stayed was exactly what we needed and we didn't even know it. Just a few blocks away from beach, close to food markets and a ten minute bus ride away from the city center, Hostal Todos Santos is the place to be! A giant porch overlooks the Pacific Ocean, an old black lab retriever watches...

Do you feel lonely? You don't have to!

Image
How is it possible to feel lonely while surrounded by people all the time? It happens a lot and it's more common now more than ever before. We live in a society where most of our interactions with others actually don't happen in person. Instead, words and thoughts are exchanged through technology. Actually having a conversation has become mundane and most of our communication happens through our fingers, typing away yet another "LOL" and "TTYL". If you don't know what these acronyms stand for, you're better off! You may be "behind with the times" but if it means that you still pick up your phone and actually call your friends, then you are certainly behind with the times but ahead of everyone else. You're ahead of those who have stopped focusing on building face to face connections and have fallen into the endless world of "likes" "tagging" and "pokes". Which by the way, dear Facebook, the poking optio...

Sail Away into the Now

Image
The sounds of the Indian flutes rising up and down and the enchanting rhythm of the drums, lulls my mind into a soft and comforting present. The here and the now, the time of no time; the present.  A black bird with a slender body, long neck and a long, sharp beak lands on the water only disturbing the waves for a quick moment. He looks around and with a swift jump up, dives down into the water. It's lunch time.  The water in the bay is a dark teal green surrounded by wooden piers which over time have collected an array of sea life that cling on to the long wooden beams. Fancy yachts rest their bones and small sailboats bob around in the distance waiting for their next venture out into the big unknown. I've always been fascinated by the sea and by the life of those who choose to make it their home. I've read countless novels about those brave and adventurous souls which take to the sea to break away from the oppressing life in our society and to test their own lim...
