A new chapter or maybe even a new book...

Baby duckies living at Island Boys

Two days ago, around midday, I left Cambodia and crossed into Thailand. I left half a year of my life behind me, moving forward. Will I ever return to Cambodia? Who knows. You never know where life may take you. For now though, this chapter of my life is closed, making space for new pages.

A quick look back on my time on Koh Rong... Whoa! Where to begin?

4km Beach

Well, let's get this one straight from the beginning. I didn't start my yoga business while being on the island even though that was the original reason I stayed there. I did a lot of swimming though, so that was keeping me healthy and fit. I worked for a little guesthouse, restaurant, bar called Vagabond's and got to see behind the scenes life of people in Cambodia as well as the foreigners coming here. I met some amazing people and a few that I can actually call friends. I was loved dearly by Aila, the Vagabond's dog who was a young pup when I met her. She just gave birth to a puppy of her own recently. Crazy! At one time I had a baby chicken in my room because she was being chased by the local dogs. Simba stole my heart and everyone else's as soon as he stumbled over to me the first time. Simba was seriously one of the cutest puppies I have ever seen!

I got stung by a stingray while going fishing to Police Beach, which is a walk through some rocks and a couple little beaches. That thing hurt so much! I was definitely scared that day, blood was gushing out of my foot, it felt like it might explode soon, it was so sore. I survived.

Simba on his first trip to 4K Beach
I camped on Long Beach one night on my own after building a tee pee out of rubbish and fallen branches on the beach. Later on that night, I was caught in a massive rain storm and was made to leave behind my creation because it leaked everywhere. After running down the beach at 3am for thirty minutes in the pouring rain, I found a Bungallow and hid there from the rain. I woke up to a beautiful view of the sea and the beach, as well as to my waterproof bag being eaten by a rat, leaving my bag with a massive whole at the bottom. I made it back through the jungle safely.

Speaking of rats. Let's just say, if a whole day went by without seeing a rat in my room, that was a good day! They chew everything, even if it's not food. Those creatures are insane.

I met a Lithuanian girl on the island as well. She became my roommate and co-worker at Vagabond's which did not last long. After a couple weeks or even less, she had a panic attack and left the island thinking that someone was going to kill her. Poor girl had to leave and straighten her head. A small island, as beautiful as it is, may have not been the right setting for it. Hopefully she turned out alright because I never heard from her again. People came and people went. I made a few very close friends and I've shed quite a few tears on that island. But in the end, I thank all of you that were there with you and the island itself for being a wonderful, beautiful host, which sometimes gave me sunshine, rain, strange foot fungus, many stubbed toes, frizzy hair, a nice tan, giant spiders, scorpions jumping from under mats (which I kill with no mercy), and so many other strange yet wonderful things.

Dori with Aila

A special thanks to Dori for being a wonderful friend and a kickass guitar teacher!!! Nina, you were my grounding person and a great friend thank you :) Josie, you crazy lovely woman, thank you for keeping us all on our toes and for the best birthday (your birthday) celebration ever!!! Rich, my guardian angel with the most beautiful mind. All of you that were on the island when I just got there and those who stayed behind. My Vagabond's crew and everyone else I was lucky to meet. Thank you all!! We will meet again.

Most of the time, I just had a lot of fun exploring, learning, and soaking up the sun. Towards the end of my time there though, things changed and instead of feeling wild and free, I started feeling trapped. That was when I usually would have left. I had a few reasons to stay eventually though. I just couldn't get over the fact that Koh Rong, that beautiful island, wasn't really doing it for me anymore. But things change and sometimes the best thing to do is to move on.

Where in the world will I go now...
